MAC: Hey, Sailor! Blusher & Lipbalm

If you follow me on twitter you would have seen me post a picture and a tweet about getting my hands on some of the products from MAC’s new Hey, Sailor! colour range. I ordered the powder blush in ‘Launch away’ and the Sun tints SPF20 liquid lip balm in ‘Au rose’. I was’nt sold on the colours of the lipsticks in this range and I have another lipgloss by MAC, So with summer approaching I thought that a lip balm would be a sensible purchase, and this is my first MAC blusher. ‘Launch away’ is a satin formula and is described as a true peach in colour and you get 6 g for £18. Like a lot of people the packagaing was what attracted me the most to these products. The blusher is a very fine formula and when it arrived I was very disappointed. It looked like more of a washed out baby pink than a true peach. However when applying it’s a really nice natural blush colour for someone with fair skin like myself, the colour was buildable and not overwhelming, its really nice to wear for a natural look or teamed with a brighter lipstick, this blush is a real go to for day to day application. However I have a family member who works in MAC so mine only cost £9, I’m not sure I’d be as happy with the product if I had paid more. It was IMPOSSIBLE to swatch because of how fine and light the powder was, I have tried to photograph it on my face – alas I think you can tell I’m wearing blusher but you cannot pick up the real colour through the photograph – sorry!

The lip balm also disappointed me on first view impressions. I am not a fan of squeezy tubes on balms, but this is my fault for being over excited and not researching the product properly. I also feel as though my tube was half filled? And for £11.50 I don’t think you get a lot for your money, again I have family in the company so mine was only £5.75. ‘Au rose’ is described as a ‘Poppy coraly pink with gold pearl’ and I would agree with this colour description whole heartedly. This is again another product good for day time makeup, This product felt like more of a gloss to me, It is very sticky and tacky and when applying you can see fine flecks of the gold pearl mentioned. However this product does have an SPF OF 20 which is perfect for days on the beach – if you’re not worried about your hair getting stuck in this product! Colour wise it didn’t do a lot for me, more of a ‘better than your own’ lip colour. The only thing I will say it lasted me around 3 hours at work in which I am talking and drinking a lot. I will continue to buy MAC as I’m an avid fan of their products and could not live without Studio fix. However this range as a whole hasn’t impressed me as previous ones have. Guess I learnt my lesson of being over excited and buying a product quick before looking into it more. Have you brought anything from this range? What did you think? Let me know!
